Recovery Walks the AT Trail
Phil is available for speaking engagements about his journey, as well as all things recovery.
On March 19, 2015, Phil Valentine, CCAR Executive Director, began his hike of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, Georgia. This day was of great significance, as it was exactly five years to the day when Phil was diagnosed with stage four cancer of the tongue. As a person in long-term recovery and a cancer survivor, Phil was called to walk the trail to put a face on recovery, which is something he has been doing as the CCAR Executive Director since 2001. He also wanted to show that people in recovery can do extraordinary things. A renown author, speaker and now AT Thru Hiker, Phil chronicled his entire 2,189.2 mile journey from Georgia to Maine on the website, www.at4recovery.org. We hope you will visit the site, and be inspired by his journey.
Phil stated on multiple occasions, that his intent was never to finish, but to simply start. Such in the same way one starts on their journey of recovery. The courage is always in taking that first step…and then to #continue.
